02 August 08 - 16:54Wow, my second post in over a year
So, its obvious that I've not done with this blog what I've said I would do. I can't guarantee that I will continue to do with this blog what I said I would do, either. It's extremely likely that it'll be yet another year or so until I post here. On the other hand, it could be as soon as tomorrow. For now, you (if anyone is in fact reading this thing) should assume that I'll post whenever the Muse strikes me, assuming that I remember both my username and password. Also, it's likely I'll have consumed alcohol at some point. On the topic of alcohol, I'd like to inform you that it's an extremely BAD idea to try and defend your wife's honor while drunk. Even if it's only on the internet. See, the Beloved has been being shat upon by the Altdot forums for being insane. She's not, by the way. She has issues, yes, but she's improved so much over the last five years as to render them almost meaningless. While she should still see a therapist, if for no other reason than to have someone to vent to about myself), she is in fact as well adjusted as most people out there. Both of our children are well provided for, and fairly healthy. Both are where they should be, considering their premature births.
However, at one point, I found the altdot forums (called alt.snark) where my wife has a thread all to herself concerning what a lousy parent she is, and how someone should call Child Protective Services on her. Unfortunately, at the time I found them, I had consumed alcohol, and decided that it was real important to give them a piece of my mind, as well as my real name and military email address.
They pointed out to me (quite correctly, by the way) that my wife had posted on a public forum and that it was their right to criticize her as they saw fit. They were still assholes. They also pointed out what a bad idea it was to post my real name, as so many of them wanted to call CPS. Well, I ignored that, until I read this. That's right, folks. Apparently this couple had their child stolen from them by CPS because of an anonymous phone call. By the time they were cleared of any wrong doing (ie, guilty until proven innocent, instead of the other way around), the judge had decided that because the child had been with the foster parents for too long, it would be too traumatic for the girl to return her to her actual parents.
What the hell? Is it truly possible that the government is able to do this? Is it possible that I am somehow stuck in a George Orwell novel and imagining all this? Or did a United States Judge decide that it was legal to steal a child from someone on the flimsiest of pretexts and decide that the actual parents were assed out due to "possible trauma?" I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that the United States that I think I serve has not existed for a while.
